What is discrimination?

The Equality Act 2010 protects employees and applicants for employment against discrimination relating to certain “protected characteristics”, including:

• Age
• Disability
• Race (including ethnic or national origin, nationality and color)
• Religion of belief
• Sex (including discrimination based on pregnancy or maternity leave)
• Sexual orientation
• Sexual Harassment
• Gender reassignment
• Equal pay

From recruitment to termination an employer has to ensure that they do not discriminate on the above grounds. If you have an employee with one of the above characteristics be sure not to show them less favorable treatment to those who don’t possess that particular characteristic.
If you require any advice on discrimination, Laveer Legal would be happy to talk through any concerns you may have, and work with you to ensure your business is protected from a discrimination claim.
